    Description

    FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION,
    A RARE, 1949 ONLY, #182
    BLACK SMOKESTACK
REMOTE CONTROL  MAGNET CRANE THAT IS ALL ORIGINAL.
The #182 cranes were made by Lionel for only 4 years- 1946 thru 1949.
The latest production cranes had a black painted smokestack rather than the gray painted smokestack of the earlier production cranes. This was done as a cost saving measure as the clear Styrene plastic smokestack was first glued on the cab, and then the cab and smokestack were painted as a unit.
The black Bakelite base was unpainted, also for cost saving.
The box was also different than earlier boxes in that it did not have the pasted-on orange and blue label or the orange/blue Lionel imprinted paper sealing tape, again for cost saving.
The late boxes have no label and plain tan colored tape, as shown in the pictures of the box.
It has all original parts including under tower wiring, controller cable, boom, smokestack, light bulb, string, etc. things often missing or replaced with reproduction parts. It has all the parts that it came from the factory with and none that didn't.
All the mechanical parts show very little wear, indicating not much use.
It has been disassembled, cleaned, lubed with Labelle Teflon oil and grease, reassembled, and tuned up. The motor has a lathe-turned commutator and new brushes.
Also included is some of the "scrap". Sorry, no bag. There is also an instruction sheet.
It operates perfectly at 16-18 volts
It has the scarcer black controller buttons.
    It has no reproduction parts.
All mechanical parts are in great condition and have little to no wear.
The lettering on the cab is great, and the cab paint is very nice.
The silver paint on the tower and upper base is original and has only a few marks or paint chips.
The base is unpainted black Bakelite, also a 1949 only variation.
All wiring is original, including the controller cable. The controller cable is somewhat stiff, so if the purchaser intends to operate it on a layout I will replace the harness with 5' of correct FC6 reproduction cable at no additional cost.
This crane looks like new, as shown in the pictures, and operates like new.
The box is reasonably square with all flaps attached, but has some water staining, as shown in the pics.
The main insert is included and is in nice shape. Sorry, no boom insert.
If you are looking for a really nice #182 for your collection or layout, this one offers no disappointment in either appearance or operation.
What you see is what you get.
Check the pictures and make your own judgement of the condition and grade.
Due to the fragile nature of these cranes, I will only ship insured for the amount of the winning bid
