A Fantastic Addition To The Garden Or As A Science Project!
Praying mantids eat a wide variety of pest insects, mites, and insect eggs.
Mantis egg cases are commonly released by gardeners looking for general garden pest control without chemicals. They can be instrumental in beginning biological control as part of an integrated pest management program. Young mantids prey upon smaller soft-bodied insects, while adults graduate to larger pests. View an extended list of mantis prey below.
How Long Do Praying Mantis Egg Cases Take To Hatch?
Hatching requires at least 4 to 8 weeks of continuous warm weather (75-80°F, >50% RH) and can take as long as 6 weeks to begin. Once hatching begins, the young
mantids
emerge looking for something to eat. It takes just a few hours for an egg sack to complete hatching once it begins. Mantids prefer temperatures above 60°F for continued activity in the release area.
How Many Praying Mantids Are In One Egg Case?
Each praying mantis egg case, called ootheca, is collected in the wild and contains between 150?200 individual eggs.
How Many Egg Cases Should I Get?
We recommend using 3 cases every 5,000 sq. ft. or 10-100 cases per acre. It is important to space out each egg case to limit cannibalism rates among newly hatched mantids.
Responsibly Harvested:
Our egg cases are collected by professionals who never over harvest leaving the smaller ones behind ensuring healthy future populations.
Highest Quality:
We pick only the freshest so you receive only top notch egg cases.
We sell fresh egg cases, so you never have to worry about receiving last year?s egg cases which look identical but won?t hatch.
Performance:
Mantises are wicked cool and considered to be a garden generalist. As ambush hunters praying mantises will not control a given pest species.
Is it possible that your egg case won't hatch? Yes, but not if the correct temperature, humidity and time requirements were met.
Many of the nymphs will be eaten by other predators, so expect only 1-3 mantises to reach adulthood.
Patience is a virtue; allow up to 2 months for hatching
!
General Information:
On average a praying mantis egg case contains 200 eggs.
The Chinese mantises? healthy appetite allows them to grow to an astonishing size of four to five inches in length.
It is possible to keep a praying mantis as a pet in a terrarium or suitable container to observe their impressive hunting skills.

Hatching Habitat Bag.
Indoor Hatching:
Simply place your hatching habitat Bag in a warm place out of direct sunlight and check every few days for hatching. The egg cases will need approximately 70*F for 4-8 weeks depending on when the female laid the egg. Release the mantises as soon as the hatching occurs.
?REMBER WHEN INDOOR HATCHING YOU MUST MIST YOUR EGGS EVERY 3 DAYS.?
Outdoor Hatching:
Place the egg cases in our Hatching Habitat Bag to a twig or place in the crotch of the plant about 3 to 4 feet off the ground. When hatching, the young crawl from between tiny flaps and hang from silky threads about 2 inches below the egg case. Once the egg have hatched it does not change in appearance! Open the bag and babies will disperse within an hour.
