These Esties have become known as "transitional" fountain pens because they were made between the Dollar series of the 1930s and the J series of the 1950s.
This is a "mid transitional" fountain pen as evidenced by the plain (uninscribed) clip, the smooth jewel, and the "Esterbrook" maker's mark on the barrel.
