Description
ECE No 649 “The Pocket” Adjustable Block Plane39mm (1 1/2″) Iron bedded at 50 degrees.
150 x 54 x 75mm
Hornbeam body, Ironwood sole.
I was given this new and never really used it. This one has been in its box most of its life, which I believe began sometime in the early 1980s. It may have been used at some point, but still has the factory grind on the iron. Overall in nice condition, but not new, so a little rust staining on the blade and metal adjuster and some dirt and dust to give it character. Chrome looks good. I don’t see any chips, dents or broken areas. Still in its original box. Really nice shape.
E.C.E No.649P, the "Pocket" Adjustable Block Plane is designed to be lightweight and small enough to carry around in your pocket, while still being engineered to ECE's legendary standards.
It’s comfortable in your hand, easy to use, sharpen, and adjust. It features an ironwood sole and
the adjustment knob doubles as a palm rest, which makes this plane very comfortable to use.
The adjustment mechanism is German engineering at its best. Simply turn the adjusting knob clockwise for a thicker shaving and counter-clockwise for thinner. This mechanism makes it simple to produce incredibly thin shavings.
A beautiful, lightweight, precision hand tool.
Wooden hand planes are a viable alternative to metal planes with mechanical adjusters. In a world full of rusty metal planes, The ECE wood body planes provide elegant simplicity by providing time-tested designs coupled with modern manufacturing methods and materials.
Wooden planes are also easier to tune and maintain than their rusty metal counterparts.
