    Description

This is a matching pair of Lionel RailSounds Sound Chips that were originally used with the 6-18196 Erie Lackawanna F-3 B Unit from the late 1990's.
Specifically, these are the PIC and ROM chips that plug into Lionel RailSounds boards that produce the distinct sounds. The PIC is the microprocessor that controls the sounds, while the ROM contains the actual sounds themselves. They will need to be installed as a pair.
While these particular chips are RailSounds 2.5, I have tested them in RailSounds 2.5, 3 and 4 boards with success. (They are not compatible with RailSounds 5 and above.) Lionel rarely sells the sound chips separately, so this is an opportunity to change the sound set if you already have an existing Lionel RailSounds board.
To use these chips, first MAKE SURE that you have a RailSounds board/system that accepts them. If your piece has RailSounds 2.5, 3 or 4, you should be OK. (You can message me with your item number and I'll try to help verify if these chips will work in your item.)
Next, you'll need to use a chip extractor to remove the existing chips from your sound board. (Search on eBay for a PLCC Chip Extractor -- you should be able to find one for around ). You'll need to use caution when changing the chips as the pins are easily bent or damaged if you don't know how to extract them -- therefore, I can't recommend these chips for beginners.
After changing the chips, re-attach the sound board to your system and give it a try. Here is a sampling of this particular sound set used in the TMCC mode:

Unfortunately, the eBay mobile app will not allow videos to load. As a workaround, copy the following link and paste it into your mobile browser:

Note that this test was done using TMCC. If you only operate in conventional transformer modes, you won't be able to access the CrewTalk, TowerCom or ElectroCoupler sounds. Also, the Erie Lackawanna #7091 road name and number will follow to whatever item you install these chips.
I will test each pair of chips prior to shipping to make sure that they operate correctly. But because you'll be doing the chip exchange, I can't guarantee that these will work with your sound board. (But if you have the correct sound board and know how to change the chips, you won't have any problems.) If unsure, please ask.
