16 or 20 strands — which snare wires should I choose?
Here's a tip from Sweetwater drummers: the more snare wires you have, the crisper and more sensitive your snare drum will become. So if you prefer a slappy, white-noise sort of attack, more strands is your best bet. On the other hand, if you like a more prominent shell tone, fewer strands may yield the sound you're after.
