Praying Mantis
are the ultimate general predators, hunting and
feeding on any insect they can capture. Praying Mantis are our only seasonal item, usually available
November through June, depending on supply. Each egg case should hatch out approximately
50-200 baby Mantis. At 70°F., it can take up to 6 weeks to hatch, depending on when the female
frothed her egg sack.
Scientific Name:
Tenodera aridifolia sinensis.
Adult:
Up to 3 inches long, green or brownish color.
Preys On:
Anything they can catch. However, they will
usually avoid eating Ladybugs, they taste bad.
Storage:
To prevent hatching, keep Praying Mantis
in a refrigerator.
While stored in a refrigerator, the eggs
will remain unhatched until August. Hatching later than
this may not give the baby Mantis time to mature and
reproduce before the winter freeze
