Description
SCULLY MODEL 28 (aka 280) HALF-INCH 4-TRACK REEL-TO-REEL ANALOG TAPE MACHINE. Complete with transport, 4 pre-amp modules, interconnect cables & cabinet on wheels. Original manual also included. Top of the line machine in it's day. Same model famously used at STAX, ELECTRIC LADYLAND, THE RECORD PLANT, and so many other top studios. 2-track heads are currently installed, but the full 4-track head assembly is included, as well as what seems to be an external control unit / remote. This unit came out of a defunct recording studio where it had sat unused for years. When I found it a few years ago I powered it up. The transport & all 4 modules powered up & the play, fast forward, etc. buttons worked. I never ran a signal through it or did any other tests. It has been in storage since then, and I have not turned it on since then. At the very least it will need a once over by a good tech, and a thorough cleaning inside & out. I would expect it is in need of at least minor repairs & calibration. It is being sold AS-IS and UNTESTED. Physically it is in fairly good condition. There are obvious signs of use & age, but no serious damages that I can see. A few marker marking on the pre-amp face plates, which have also yellowed to various degrees. It has not been thoroughly cleaned. Please check the photos closely for a better idea of the exact condition. The cabinet was neatly cut into a lower & upper section, which is very subtle from the outside & makes for easy 3 section transport, as the pre-amp modules can also be removed as a single unit. Cabinet is on wheels & rolls well.I'm not a pro with this kind of gear & don't know much about it other than what is stated here, but if you have any (non technical) questions I'll do my best to answer them, just ask.
Due to the weight & size I can not ship this unit. Local pick-up only. If you'd like to arrange for a freight service to pick it up & pack it I'd be happy to work with them. Also open to delivering it within a couple hundred miles, for the cost of travel, but please ask about that before buying.
I had hoped to make this unit a "project" and to set up a small analog studio around it, but that is not going to happen at this point. Hopefully somebody with some know-how can get this unit up & running and make good use of it.
Once again, it is being sold AS-IS and UNTESTED.
Will be for sale locally as well, so listing could come down at any time if it sells in person.
Any reasonable offer considered.
