You are bidding
on one Bailey Tool Company Number 15 wood plane as pictured. There are some condition issues, so please keep reading.
The body is unmarked as expected, except for some faint owner initials on the left side, and owner marking "242" near the back end.
The iron is marked "BAILEY TOOL CO WOONSOCKET RI" with the battle axe logo, with the upper part of the mark faint.
The chip breaker is marked "DEFIANCE PAT'D APR 23D 1867". That turns out to be patent 64,001, granted to William Eckert of Syracuse, NY, for the double iron.
The cap is marked "BAILEY TOOL CO" as can be seen.
Overall length of the body is not quite 13-3/8". The iron is a hair over 1-15/16" in width or a nominal 2" width, and is just over 5-3/4" in length.
This plane features the lever adjuster for the iron, which predates the more common brass knob to adjust the iron up and down.
The mechanism for the lever operates properly, but the little threaded piece that is the lever itself is probably not original.
The rear handle or tote is also probably not original. The rear boss is partially broken off as can be seen in the 7th picture, and the threaded rod inside the handle is quite short and barely engages the threads. The brass nut on top is recessed quite a bit as can also be seen. The forward little screw turns stiffly, and its threads need some attention.
The body of the plane is quite dirty with grease, and it appears that the plane has been lightly repainted, although what looks like paint in the thin areas (where the Japanning is missing) might turn out to be grease.
Condition of the plane would otherwise be very good with that cleaning. The front knob is beaded and appears to be original, and has only some scratches and dings but no chips. The BAILEY TOOL CO cap is intact, including both of the slots on the edges, and the screw appears proper. The iron has some faint pitting mostly on the logo side, and the chip breaker has one area of pitting near the lower edge on the logo side, and a previous owner did some rough cleaning in that area. The chip breaker screw is proper and in very good condition. That is important as it needs to fit into the adjuster. EXCEPT as noted, there are no cracks or chips or chunks missing from any of the castings, and everything operates properly.

SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is rapidly becoming a reality in more and more states. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for that state.
There is lots of information available from eBay that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands -- I don't have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don't have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to eBay.
SELLING OUTSIDE OF EBAY: Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with eBay to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the eBay email system? Please don't ask, the answer is no.
SHIPPING IN THE US: I would rather that you spend your money on my stuff, and not on shipping.
I package well, and have a great track record
of getting everything to each buyer, and getting it there in one piece.
I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based on what is the least expensive, and based on what I think is needed to protect the item. I use the US Post Office for everything. If the value is 0 or over, eBay requires your signature at the USPS delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.
USPS POSTAGE RATE INCREASE AS OF January. Every year the US Postal Service raises rates in mid to late January, and this year is no exception.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally.
AUCTIONS: I won’t end an auction listing early to sell it to you directly. As a bidder, I really dislike going back at the end of an auction to bid, only to discover that the seller had ended the auction early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you.
PACKAGING: Please check my feedback -- I package well. I figure if you take the time to purchase from me, then I can take the time to package it well, and not just throw it into a cereal box with a scrap of newspaper.
