Hi,
here is a Stanley Bailey Number 5 Smooth Bottom Jack Plane. This looks to be a type 8. It is in decent workable shape.
It has the "B" casting Foundry Mark, and one patent date on the lateral adjuster. It also has the 1892 patent date on the iron which matches to this particular type from about 1899 to 1902.
The tote's horn is chipped off on top. It has L.A.P.S. stamped on the side of the tote , so it probably was a school plane . The front knob is in good decent shape.
The handles have the typical dings, but are sturdy.
There is wear, scratches, dings, discoloration/staining, light pitting on the the plane sole. There is some japanning loss on the bed of the plane.
All moving parts work. No cracks or repairs that can be seen on the plane body. Lightly cleaned, and oiled.
The plane could use a little more cleaning.
