This is a high quality professional grade
Japanese
kanna
(
鉋)
plane
, a mainstay of the Japanese
daikusan
(carpenter) c. 1930's. This
kanna
was made by a Japanese master blade maker
of laminated hand forged steel with the same process as is used to make traditional Japanese samurai swords
.  It is signed by the master blade maker (see picture 6)
.
The wooden
dai
encasing the blade is made of Japanese red oak. A previous carpenter has modified this kanna such that rails on the foot make a 4cm wide channel (see picture 2, 3 and 7)
Once you have used a Japanese
kanna
plane you will never go back to the western plane for an
especially
smooth and polished surace. With exception of sign of past use
,
it remains in
very good
condition
. The blade is very ***sharp*** please be careful.
Give it a final honing and you will be amazed at its razor sharpness. Even as it is you can see in the enlarged pictures that it can cut a fine edge (see pictures 6). A truly fine vintage blade still having
generations of life for its next masters.
