Vintage Obsolete NYPD Intelligence Detail Lapel Pin - Mayor - City Hall.
New York Police Department Intel Division lapel pin likely used by executive protection security details in the early 1990s. Round pin is surmounted by spread eagle, features the salient rampart with five stars above the seal of the City of New York. Pin has a thick rim, and features a slightly convex clear casing that has a warm, amber tone to it. Has a control number engraved on the back. The pin itself is slightly bent, but strong and intact (see photo).
This item is not a current law enforcement emblem, and conveys no authority whatsoever. There were not a whole lot of these in circulation, and are rarely, if ever, on the collectors' market.
From the estate of a retired officer who was involved in dignitary protection in the 1980s and 90s.
